19TH C. WOODEN MON BUDDHA

This buddha is utterly charming, but powerful.  Some folk/village produced buddhas have the kind of individual charcter and impact that workshop/foundry buddhas never can have.  I have not seen another one like it.  It stands 20 inches high, 22 with the stand.  It originally had a longer base, now long gone.  Otherwise the condition is excellent, and the patina is very deep.  This buddha was in the NY Tribal Show, and was felt to be not as old as 17th century, so I am now calling it 19th.  For lovers of folk devotional art.  $1400
